The upcoming username feature will serve as an optional identifier linked to a user’s account. Once activated, users can share their username instead of their phone number when connecting with new contacts. However, existing contacts will still see the phone number if they have it saved.
How to Reserve Your Username
Currently, the reservation option is available only through the WhatsApp mobile app, not on WhatsApp Web or desktop. To reserve a username, iPhone users should navigate to the ‘You’ section, select their profile, and choose ‘Create Username’ or ‘Reserve Username.’ Android users can access this feature through the Settings menu. Username Guidelines and Security Features
Each username must be unique and can range from three to 35 characters, including lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores.
