The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has taken a significant step towards revitalizing the national hockey scene by appointing an internationally recognized coaching team. This initiative aims to restore Pakistan’s position among the world’s elite hockey nations.
Key Appointments in the Coaching Team
Herman Kruis, a Dutch coach, has been designated as the Overall National Hockey Coaching Advisor and Head Coach. His primary role will involve developing a modern coaching philosophy for Pakistan hockey, setting technical standards, and advising the senior national team management.
David Dwyer has been appointed as the Fitness and High-Performance Coach. He will implement contemporary sports science methods, including strength and conditioning programs and injury prevention strategies, to enhance the fitness levels of Pakistani players.
Focus on Talent Development and Goalkeeping
Adnan Zakir has been named the Junior Talent Identification Coach, tasked with leading a nationwide program to discover and nurture young hockey talent. Additionally, Bob Johan Veldhof will serve as the Goalkeeping Coach, modernizing goalkeeper training and mentoring local coaches.
Mental Performance and Long-Term Goals
Sports psychologist Chris Bowen will manage the mental performance program, focusing on key areas such as confidence, leadership, and team culture. The international coaching staff will work across all national teams, including senior, junior, under-18, youth, and women’s squads.
The PHF aims not only to prepare teams for upcoming competitions but also to establish a sustainable hockey development system in Pakistan. A significant aspect of this program will involve strengthening the coaching infrastructure through mentoring and technical workshops, ensuring a continuous transfer of knowledge.
The initiative will be overseen by the PHF Development Committee, led by Olympians Hassan Sardar and Islahuddin Siddiqui, who will guide the implementation of the federation’s long-term technical development strategy.
