Punjab Government Offers 4 Acres of Agricultural Land for Just Rs 100 to Support Poor Farmers

The Punjab government has launched an innovative initiative named “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” aimed at assisting landless families in the region. This program is designed to provide 30,000 deserving families with access to 4 acres of state-owned agricultural land on a long-term lease, with an incredibly low annual fee of just Rs 100. This initiative not only addresses the issue of landlessness but also aims to empower families by enabling them to cultivate crops and generate a sustainable income.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been instrumental in overseeing the program, ensuring transparency through a computerized balloting process held in Lahore. The merit-based selection aims to guarantee that the most deserving families benefit from this opportunity. The scheme encompasses a total of 121,000 acres of cultivable government land, and allotment letters are expected to be issued shortly, with families anticipated to take possession of the land by July 31.

Financial Support for Farmers

In addition to the land lease, each selected family will receive financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per acre, amounting to a total of Rs 200,000. This funding is intended to cover essential expenses such as land preparation, seeds, and other farming necessities. The lease agreement is set for a duration of 20 years, with the possibility of extension, allowing families to establish a long-term agricultural presence.

Promoting Gender Equality in Agriculture

To further enhance the impact of this initiative, the Punjab government has reserved a 20% quota of the land for women. This measure aims to promote gender equality in the agricultural sector, encouraging women to participate actively in farming and contribute to their households’ income. By empowering women, the program seeks to foster a more inclusive agricultural community.

Objectives of the Initiative

The primary goals of the “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” scheme are to combat rural poverty, create job opportunities, and boost agricultural production in Punjab. Many families who previously lacked access to land will now have the chance to cultivate crops, thereby improving their financial stability. Officials believe that this initiative will not only strengthen the rural economy but also bring previously unused land into productive use.

Application Process and Timeline

The program began accepting applications in April 2026, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with thousands of applications processed swiftly. The transparent selection process and the low cost of leasing the land have made this initiative particularly appealing to those in need.

Implications for Punjab’s Agricultural Sector

This initiative marks a significant step towards revitalizing Punjab’s agricultural landscape. By providing land and financial support to families, the government is taking proactive measures to enhance food production and ensure food security in the region. The program is expected to lead to increased agricultural output, which is crucial for the province’s economy.

As the program unfolds, it will be essential to monitor its impact on the lives of the beneficiaries and the overall agricultural productivity in Punjab. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for similar programs in other provinces, potentially transforming the agricultural sector across Pakistan.
