Stricter Penalties for Non-Compliance
This initiative aims to reduce the number of serious accidents on Punjab’s busy roads. Traffic police officials emphasize that many accidents occur due to riders neglecting to wear helmets. By implementing bike seizures, the government hopes to raise awareness and encourage adherence to safety regulations.
Fines and Additional Measures
The standard fine for riding without a helmet is approximately Rs. 2,000. However, the new penalty of bike seizure is designed to enhance the effectiveness of this rule. In addition to helmet enforcement, authorities are also addressing lane discipline violations, with strict actions for drivers who change lanes abruptly or drive incorrectly.
Technological Integration in Traffic Enforcement
As part of its commitment to improving road safety, Punjab has introduced a digital challan system. This system utilizes photo and video evidence to document violations, sending riders an SMS with a link to view proof of their infractions. Officials encourage all motorcyclists to wear helmets and comply with traffic laws to safeguard themselves and their families.
